최근 한국을 넘어 전 세계적으로 사랑받고 있는 컨텐츠가 있습니다. 바로 먹방. 유튜브와 인스타그램 등 소셜미디어를 통해 새로 나온 신제품과 잘 어울리는 음식을 함께 먹는 영상을 촬영해 공유해 먹방 신드롬을 일으키고 있습니다.
한국은 불닭볶음면을 먹는 먹방으로 시작해 치킨, 떡볶이, 김치 등 다양한 음식을 선보이고 있습니다. 먹방을 촬영하는 이들은 주로 먹으며 맛을 표정으로 표현하기도 하고, 말로 설명하기도 합니다. 생각하는 맛을 단순히 ‘맛있다’가 아닌 다양하게 표현하고 싶을 때 사용할 수 있는 영어 표현, 블로그에서 공부하세요.
맛 (flavors)
달콤한 케익, 아이스크림, 초콜렛, 사탕 등 을 먹을 때 사용할 수 있는 표현 - Sweet
Sweet foods have a sugary flavor , such as cake, ice cream, chocolate, lollipops and mangoes.
짭짤하고 간간한 맛의 음식을 표현할 때 사용하는 어휘 - Savory
Savory foods have a a spicy or salty flavor, without being sweet.

Salty - 짜다
Salty is used to describe food that tastes too much of salt. It is usually used as a negative description. - 일반적으로 부정적인 뉘앙스로 쓰입니다.
This popcorn is very salty; it makes my lips burn.
Bitter - 쓰다
Bitter describes a strong and sometimes unpleasant flavor that is the opposite of sweet. - 씁쓸하고 불쾌할 수 있는 쓴 맛을 표현할 때 쓰입니다.
Coffee, very dark chocolate, beer and citrus peel are all bitter.
Tart - 시다
Tart describes a sharp and acidic taste. Sour can also be used, but it often has a negative meaning. - Sour는 Tart 보다 상위 개념으로 더 넓은 의미를 포함합니다.
Lemon, white wine, Greek yogurt, pickles and some raspberries are all tart foods.
Smoky - 훈제한 맛
Smoky describes foods that taste of smoked wood. - 음식 뿐만 아니라 위스키같은 술에도 사용할 수 있는 표현입니다.
Bacon, whisky, and lox/smoked salmon are all smoky foods.
Rancid - 상한 맛
Rancid describes the taste of food that has a strong or unpleasant smell or taste because it is no longer fresh. - 상한 맛, 부패한 맛
How old is this milk? It smells rancid.
Spicy/hot - 맵다
Spicy is the taste that makes one's mouth burn from strong chilies. - 한국인이 사랑하는 가장 대표적인 맛이 아닐까요?
Hot can be used to describe spicy food or food that has a very high temperature.
"This curry is HOT!"
"Do you mean spicy-hot or temperature-hot?"
Textures - 질감
Texture is the way a food feels when you touch it or eat it.
Creamy - 부드러운
Creamy foods are smooth, soft and thick. While they are often made with milk or cream, they don't need to be.
Avocados, ice cream, macaroni and cheese, yogurt and melted chocolate are all creamy foods.
Crumbly - 잘 바스러지는
Crumbly describes food that falls apart into small pieces when you eat or break it.
I like to put crumbly cheese like gorgonzola and feta into a salad.
Crunchy - 바삭바삭한
Crunchy foods have a hard texture and make a loud sound when chewed.
Potato chips, nuts, biscotti, raw carrots, and the skin of fried chicken are all crunchy foods.
Greasy - 느끼한, 기름진
Greasy foods taste very much of oil, and usually leave oil behind.
This pizza is so greasy that my entire plate is covered in oil.
Gooey - 끈적한
Gooey describes foods that are wet and sticky, often in a positive way.
Benny loves gooey fudge sauce on top of her ice cream.
Moist - 촉촉한
Mushy - 물컹거리는
