왜 카플란 선생님들이 최고라고 평가받는지 궁금하신가요?

카플란 맨체스터에 계신 애니타 선생님과의 인터뷰를 통해 여러가지 궁금증을 풀어보도록 하겠습니다.

Q: 어떤 레벨의 수업을 맡고 있으신가요?

A: At the moment I teach Lower Intermediate, but I have taught all levels from Advanced to Beginners. I don’t have a favorite level, I like them all for different reasons.

A: 지금 현재는Lower Intermediate를 가르치고 있어요. 하지만Advanced부터Beginners까지 모든 레벨을 가르친 경험이 있습니다. 특별히 선호하는 레벨은 없어요. 각 다른 이유로 모든 레벨을 좋아해요.

Q: 얼마동안 영어를 가르쳐 오셨나요? 얼마동안 카플란에서 일을 하셨나요?

A: I have been teaching English for about 10 years now, and have taught in many countries around the world such as Japan, Italy, Oman and Bolivia. I’ve been at Kaplan for the last 2 years.

A: 10년 정도 영어를 가르쳐왔어요. 일본, 이태리, 오맨, 볼리비아와 같은 여러나라에서 영어를 가르친 경험이 있습니다. 카플란과의 인연은 2년정도 되었어요.

Q: 어디 출신 이신가요?

A: I was born and raised in Manchester. It is quite funny because I went abroad for 8 years, living in various countries around the world, only to return to live and work literally 5 minutes from where I was born!

A: 저는 맨체스터에서 태어나서 이곳에서 자랐어요. 재미있는것은 해외 여러나라에서 8년을 지내다가 돌아온곳은 제가 태어난 곳에서 5분정도 떨어진 (정말 가까운) 곳에서 살고 있다는 거예요.

Q: 맨체스터에 대해 자랑해 주세요.

A: The people of course! Manchester is such a cool, vibrant city. There is something for everyone; culture, good restaurants and nightlife, good weather (occasionally).

A: 첫번째로 사람들이 정말 좋아요. 맨체스터는 멋지고 역동적인 도시예요. 또한 문화, 좋은 식당들, 유흥문화부터 좋은 날씨까지 모든 사람들은 위한 것들이 있어요.

Q: 어떤 수업을 선호하시나요?

A: I like teaching exam classes, as I find preparing for a test really motivating! I also enjoy the challenge of making these kinds of classes fun and interesting.

A: 시험관련 수업을 가르치는것을 좋아해요. 시험을 준비하는 것은 정말 동기를 북돋는것 같아요. 또한 이러한 수업을 흥미롭게 만드는 것이 도전적이면서도 좋아요.

Q: 영어를 가르치는 것의 장점과 카플란에서 가르티는 것의 장점이 어떤것이 있을까요?

A: For me, the best thing about teaching is when you see that a student has understood something new – we would call it ‘the light-bulb moment’. At Kaplan we get students from all over the world, and I love the fact that in one class you could have up to 6 or 7 different nationalities in one class. I love learning about different cultures.

A: 개인적으로 영어를 가르치는것의 최고의 장점은 학생들이 새로운것을 배워나가는 것을 볼수 있다는 거예요. 우리는 이러한 순간을‘the light-bulb moment’ 라고 불러요. 카플란에서는 전세계에서 오는 학생들이 있어요. 그래서 한 반에 6개국 또는 7개국의 학생들이 함께 있는것이 정말 좋아요. 이를 통해 다른 문화를 배워나가는 것은 정말 흥미로워요.

Q: 왜 EFL을 가르치기로 결정하셨나요?

A: I initially went into it as a stop gap between finishing my undergraduate degree and starting my Master’s as a way of seeing the world, but I enjoyed it so much that I decided not to do the Master’s and retrain as a EFL teacher.

A: 처음에는 대학졸업후 대학원 진학전 세계를 보기위한 방법으로 선택을 했었어요. 하지만 제가 이일을 정말 즐기고 있다는것을 알게 된 후에 대학원 진학대신 EFL 교사를 선택하게 되었어요.

Q: 여가시간에는 어떤걸 하시나요?

A: A hobby that I picked up while I was abroad is photography. I have been to so many amazing countries and wanted to capture some of the memories I had made, so I took up photography!

A: 제가 해외에 있는 동안에 갖게된 취미는 사진찍기예요. 여러 멋진 나라를 여행하면서 그 기억들을 담고 싶었어요. 그래서 사진을 찍기 시작했어요.

Q: 어떻게 수업을 재미있고 학생들의 참여을 유도할수 있게 만드시나요?

A: I try to get to know my students to find out what they are interested in, and then I try to tailor my lessons to be relevant to their needs and wants.

A: 우선은 학생들로 하여금 본인들이 무엇에 관심이 있는지를 찾도록 해요. 그 이후에 수업을 학생들의 필요와 그들이 원하는 것과 연관되도록 맞춰가요.

Q: 지금까지 카플란에 일하면서 최고의 기억은 어떤게 있을까요?

A: My best memory so far was when we took the students to visit the Queen, when she came to Manchester. We gave the students a special lesson on the royal family, then took them down to the train station where she was due to arrive. It was a once in a lifetime event!

A: 최고의 기억은 여왕이 맨체스터에 방문하였을때 학생들과 함께 여왕을 보러 갔었던 거예요. 먼저 학생들에서 영국 왕족에 대한 특별한 수업을 했어요. 그 이후에 여왕이 도착하기로 된 기차역으로 학생들과 함께 갔었어요. 인생에서 한번 있는 기회였어요.
