영어문장에 숫자를 쓸때 주의해야할 점!

There are a few rules that can help you know whether to write just the numbers, or to spell them out.
영어문장에 숫자를 써야 할때는 몇가지 규칙이 있습니다.

Here are some easy rules to help you along:

1. In English, we write numbers starting with the largest digit
1. 영어에서는 숫자를 쓸때는 가장큰 번호부터 씁니다.

This is just the basics, but when we’re writing or saying numbers, we start with the highest value digit first. So 21 is written as “twenty-one” (not “one-and-twenty” as it is done in many languages).
가장 기본에 해당되는 규칙이고 여러나라에서도 동일한 규칙이기에 이해가 쉬울것입니다. 예를들어 숫자 21을 쓴다면 "One-and-twenty"가 아니고 "twenty-one" 입니다.

2. The Decimal Comma

In English, we use a comma as a decimal space, rather than a period (full stop) or a space. So one thousand five hundred is written as 1,500. We use a period to indicate a fraction of a number. For example, one and-a-half would be written as 1.5.
영어에서는 긴 숫자가 있을대 그중간에 쉼표를 씁니다. 예를들어서 천오백은 영어문장에 쓸때는 1,500 이라고 중간에 쉼표를 넣어줍니다. 그외에도 기간을 1과 이분의 일 이라는 숫자를 나타낼대는 1.5 라고 표시를 합니다.

3. Don’t start sentences with a number
3. 문장을 시작할때는 숫자로 시작해서는 안됩니다

It just makes using capital letters difficult. So instead of saying “400 tickets were sold” we would say, “Supporters bought 400 tickets.”
예를 들어서 "400 tickets were sold" 라고 생각했던 문장은 "supporters bought 400 tickets" 라고 명시되어야 됩니다.

4. Dates should be numbers, but centuries and decades should be written out
4. 날짜는 숫자로 명시되어야하지만, 세기나 기간을 나타내는 문장에서는 숫자를 줄이기도 합니다.

So we would write “1980″, but talk about “the eighties” or “the twentieth century”.
예를들어서, "1980"는 구어로 할때는 "the eighties" 라고 말하거나 "20세기" 라고 말합니다.

5. For really big numbers, a combination of digits and words is okay
5. 큰 숫자를 말할때는, 숫자와 단어를 함께쓰는것이 좋습니다.

So 100,000,000 would normally be written as “100 million” – it’s easiest to read and understand.
예를들어서 100,000,000 이라는 큰숫자를 말할때나 쓸때는 보통 "100 million" 이라고 짧게 말하거나 쓰는것이 듣는이나 보는이도 편리하고 쓰는이도 편리합니다.
