뉴질랜드사람들이 쓰는 재미있는 속어!

If you plan to visit or study in New Zealand, you may want to brush up on a few words and phrases commonly used in New Zealand.

뉴질랜드를 방문하거나 뉴질랜드에서 공부할 계획이 있다면 키위(뉴질랜드사람들을 일컷는말) 들이 흔히 쓰는 몇가지 속어들을 알고 싶을것입니다.

Slang in New Zealand is similar to Australian slang, though it’s not exactly the same.

뉴질랜드의 속어는 호주의 속어랑 비슷한점이 많지만 아주 똑같지는 않습니다.

New Zealanders, who refer to themselves as Kiwis, are, like their Aussie neighbors, also fond of nicknaming things.

호주사람들을 Aussie 라고 부른다면 뉴질랜드사람들은 키위라고 부르듯이 그들에게는 닉네임이 있는 재밌는점이 있습니다.

One example is the phrase “cuppa”, meaning cup of tea or coffee; but the Kiwi’s unique dialect brings about a colourful and diverse encyclopedia of slang, a lot of which is used in everyday conversation.

키위들이 쓰는 속어중 하나 예를들자면 "Cuppa" 는 티나 커피 를 마신다는 의미가 잇습니다. 키위들이 쓰는 속어는 굉장히 컬러풀하고 다양하게 보통 대화에 두루두루 사용되고 있습니다.

Witty phrasing, enthusiastic expressions and a background of the indigenous Maori language make up this animated vocabulary. .

이런 재치있는 표현들은 뉴질랜드의 토착민이었던 마오리족으로 부터 유래되었다고 합니다.

We’ve put a few of the most common slang words and phrases that Kiwis use to help you make it out of the airport. Some of these you might recognize, but others you will have never heard before.

키위들이 두루쓰는 속어들을 하기와 같이 정리하였습니다! 뉴질랜드 공항에서 나오자마자 현지인들에게 써보세요!

Kia Ora – Hello 와 같은 의미입니다. 안녕?! 안녕하세요 라는 의미.
“Kia Ora! How are you?”-> " 안녕 하세요? 오늘 하루 어떠세요?"

 cheers – thanks 와 같은 의미로 고마워, 고맙습니다 라는 의미.
“Cheers for the lift home!” ->"집에 데려다 주어서 고마워요"

chocka – full와 같은 의미로 가득차다라는 의미.
That bar was chocka with people. -> "바안에 사람들로 가득찼네요.."

choice – Excellent, great의 의미로서 긍정적인 표현을 할때 쓰는 의미입니다. 한국어로는 "아주좋아!" "와우!" 라는 의미이죠.
Those new shoes are choice! ->" 새신발이 아주 좋은데?!"

 cuzzie or cuz – Meaning cousin. Used as a term of address for a friend. -> 원래 의미는 친척이라는 의미지만 구어로 친구, 벗이라는 의미로 쓰입니다.
“I haven’t seen you in weeks, cuz.”-> "친구, 자네를 본지 꽤 오래되었군!"

dodgy – bad, unreliable -> 신뢰할수 없는, 나쁜 이라는 의미입니다.
That guy selling the tickets to the concert was dodgy.-> 저남자가 파는 콘서트 티켓은 신뢰할수가 없어. 

good on ya – well done, congratulations -> 잘했습니다! 축하합니다! 라는 의미입니다.
“I just got a new job.” " 나 취직했어!!"
“Good on ya, mate!” " 잘했어!!! 축하해!! 친구야!"

 jandals – thongs/flip-flops/sandals - 한국에서 흔이 불리는 쪼리라고 하는 슬리퍼용신발을 불리울때 쓰는 말입니다.
I just bought a new pair of jandals. - 새슬리퍼를 샀어. 

knackered – tired, exhausted - 피곤해, 지쳤어..라는 의미입니다.

“I was knackered after that run.”  - 런닝하고 완전 피곤했어. 

munted – damaged beyond repair - 심하게 부서진, 깨진, 고장난 의 의미입니다.
“My car got munted in that accident!” - 차사고로 인해서 내차는 완전히 고장났어.

she’ll be right – everything is going to be fine - 괜찮을꺼야 라는 의미입니다.
My car won’t start, but she’ll be right.-> 내차가 작동을 안해.. 하지만 괜찮을꺼야. 

sweet as – really good; awesome - 굉장히 좋은 의 의미를 가지고 있습니다.
“We had a sweet as time on the weekend.”->" 주말에 굉장히 좋은 시간을 보냈어"

wop-wops – in the middle of nowhere ->  인적이 드믈고 황무지 같은 장소를 말합니다.
“We got lost out in the wop-wops.” ->" 황무지같은 장소에서 길을 잃었어"

Hello, friend. We went camping in the middle of nowhere the other day and there were a lot of flies in the area. Paul lost his shoes, which was no good, but that’s okay, we had an excellent time anyway. When we were leaving I was very tired, but I gave Paul a lift home and he said “thank you, friend. Well done,” which was very nice.
