날씨관련 표현

현재 영국은 늦가을 같은 여름 날씨로 인해서 많은 사람들이 날씨에 대한 얘기를 항상 하고 있는데요,

날씨는 대화를 시작하기에 아주 좋은 주제인것만은 틀림없습니다.

오늘은 날씨에 대한 영어 관용어를 알아볼려고 합니다.

해외로 여행 또는 어학연수 계획을 갖고 계시다면 예문과 함께 날씨 관용어구를 공부해 보시는건 어떨까요?

Raining cats and dogs:  ‘비가 억수같이 쏟아지다’ 라는 뜻입니다.

Example) Don’t forget your umbrella: it’s raining cats and dogs outside!

Indian summer:  ‘늦가을 또는 초겨울에 보통 추운 날씨 이후에 갑자기 나타나는 따뜻한 날씨’를 의미합니다.

Example)  Last October, Europe experienced an Indian summer with high temperatures lasting until November.

Brighten up the day:  ‘하루종일 행복하고 기분좋은 하루를 만들어 주는 사건 또는 사람’을 의미합니다.

Example) Thanks for buying me lunch, it really brightened up my day.

On cloud nine:  ‘매우 기분좋고 행복하다’를 의미합니다.

Example) She has been on cloud nine since getting married.

Take a rain check:  ‘어떤일을 미루다’ 라는 의미입니다.

Example) Can we take a rain check on our cinema date? I have too much homework.

To be a breeze: 우리말로 ‘식은죽 먹기다’ 라는 의미로 매우 쉽다는 의미입니다.

Example) This exam is going to be a breeze.

To blow hot and cold:  ‘계속해서 태도를 바꾸다’라는 의미입니다.

Example) I’m not sure if she likes me. She keeps blowing hot and cold.

The calm before the storm: ‘힘든시기 또는 바쁜시기가 닥치기 전에 조용한 시간’을 의미합니다.

Example) It’s going to get very busy tomorrow. Today is the calm before the storm.

Every cloud has a silver lining: 매우 긍정적인 표현으로 ‘모든 힘든 상황에도 긍정적인 면이 있다’는 뜻입니다.

Example) I’m not going on holiday this year, but every cloud has a silver lining,as I’m able to spend more time with my family at home!

To be snowed under:  ‘매우 바쁘다’라는 의미입니다.

Example) I am snowed under with English homework.

Come rain or shine: ‘(무엇이든)상관없이’

Example) I will play football tonight come rain or shine.

To steal someone’s thunder: ‘다른 사람의 공로를 가로채다’라는 의미입니다.

 Example) My classmate stole my thunder when he told the teacher that he did all the work on the presentation.
